Alexz Johnson **UPDATE** by Anako-ART Alexz Johnson **UPDATE** by Anako-ART
So yeah, updating this deviation. I decided to crop it, add some vignette and update the broken links. ;) This picture is veeery old, but still I'm very happy with it - even though it's just a copy.

Old description below.

~~~~~~~~
In case you're confused, this is NOT a photo, it's a PAINTING. (I hope you're confused :dummy:)
So yeah, my first try with a photorealistic potrait, because before I've never really aimed for photorealism, since I don't find it creative. But, it was done for practice purposes and I'm very proud of the effect, that's why I'm submitting it here. :) No tracing, no color picking, just painting from what I see.
This is Alexz Johnson, a Canadian singer & actress with such a beautiful face, that once I saw it, I knew I'd paint her. I'm not even a fan, although she has a very pretty voice, too. :3 I showed her this portrait of course, and she liked it! <3
Critiques & tips are very welcome! I know I messed up the hand, and the hair isn't right - but I'd die if I was to recreate it identically. :faint:
The most hard part: catching the propotions.
The most boring part: the hair. @_@
The most easy part: guessing the colors (that was a surprise)
The most fun part: the pores :la:
Enjoy!!!
Over all, I love this picture, its excellent! And its so close to photo quality! Congratulations on being a wonderful digital painter! She's also VERY beautiful!
Now I want to analyze the aspects of this picture that stand out to me.
Hair: The hair is excellent, you MUST tell me how you do it! (please?! ; w ;) So few people can do hair this magnificently and I'm glad you can! Because the hair is the first thing that jumped at me! (other then the fact that she looks so life-like!)
Eyes: I've noticed that far too many paintings have dull-lifeless eyes that bore me. And makes the picture lack emotion-but I'm impressed! Her eyes look inquisitive and interesting! I love them. Only problem is (I feel like I nit-pick too much) her left eye (in this entire critique I am saying my left and my right, not hers) is too wide, it doesn't match the right one. Makes her look odd. I think its also slightly lower then the other, but that may just be me :)
Skin The skin is SO soft! And pure! She is definatly a work of art all in her own! I feel the need to glue a mole or a freckle on her so she doesn't look so damn godly! (Is this a self portrait? ;D)
Pose Okay so I looked at her pose and its wonderful, sexy, curious and beautiful. Only thing that I noticed is: Her fingers aren't touching her cheek, and if you rest your head on your hand like she is (with fingers touching) it's normal and comfortable. But if you move your hand slightly away as her's is, then your head cocks in the opposite direction (I also noticed that my neck hurt, I dunno if it's like that for everyone though)
Parting words I love this picture! And the small tweaks of the eye (and possibly the hand) would make it great enough for a DD! Now I'm going to check out the rest of your gallery!
Hej! Świetna praca. Fotorealizm jest fajny właśnie do takich ćwiczeń :) Też próbuję się w ten sposób uczyć. Twoja ma super pocieniowaną twarz, włącznie z teksturą. I usta! Wszystko jest bardzo dopracowane :D Racja, jeśli chodzi o włosy to ja też odpadam, sierść też jest wyzwaniem! Fotorealizm jest wciągający, ale zgubny, jeśli nie próbuje się niczego innego...
I think it should be considered an international law that this picture cannot be spoken of without the words "holy fuck that's good" somewhere in the sentence.
(e.g., "This illustration is a holyfuckthat'sgoodtextbook example of photorealistic artwork."
Bardzo dobrze ....Wacom Intuos 3?Jeszcze nie ogarniam tych tabletów ...jaka jest różnica między Intuos 3 a na przykład Bamboo?W Corel Painter 12 trudniej byłoby o taki efekt?Jeśli znasz...Dopiero przymierzam się do portretów,stąd te pytania o podstawy.:)
Niełatwa sprawa z tymi twarzami...mała pomyłka przy proporcjach i lipa:stinkeye: ..."most hard part"
Ale widzę,że Ty radzisz sobie świetnie.
dzięki za komentarz :) prawdę mówiąc nie traktuję tego portretu jako moje osiągnięcie, bo to jest jedynie kopia zdjęcia, więc nawet jeśli nie masz ogarniętych proporcji twarzy itp, to z kopiowaniem fotek będzie Ci łatwiej. Program i tablet nie mają znaczenia. Intuosy mają więcej poziomów nacisku i wykrywalny kąt nachylena, ale szczerze powiedziawszy rożnica nie jest aż taka wyczuwalna - szczególnie dla początkującego. Najważniejsze przy takim malowaniu to dopra obserwacja koloru oraz waloru, wszystko może sie składać równie dobrze z plam, jeżeli te pierwsze są dobrze nałożone ;)
Aside from the the photorealism, which is amazing on its own, I have to congratulate you on the detail and realism of the hair most of all. It's not easy to make something looks so good when it's the part you find most boring. :D The hair is easily my favorite part of the picture.
And all the comments about how the eyes are off are stupid. Do people look in the mirror, like ever? Though I guess it takes artists a while to actually see what's there instead of just half-assed looking and thinking "Oh that's an eye, I know what it looks like." and then wondering why their drawings look wrong. Extra kudos for actually doing the eyelid folds like they actually are. :)
1. Because it's so beautiful and looks like a photo
2. Because you know her!
She's really talented and she doesn't get the amount of attention she deserves...
Oh I don't know Alex - I just mailed her with this picture and she was kind enough to reply :)
Yes, she's very talented in both acting and singing, but it's really hard to get popularity in this industry. I would love to hear her voice in some less mainstream music though. :)
Thank you very much ^^
"There is no time to stop and stare..." - Other than here of course. Three cheers for a bravura portrait. The hair is incredible, fluffy, light and with a with a natural glow - does it sound off to say I admire the way you've done the roots in her parting? Anyhow your boredom is our benefit :) Yes, the eyes aren't the same (ref: earlier critique), but checking out the singer's actual portrait, neither are her eyes in real life - all faces have a certain amount of asymmetry - it's one of the that make faces interesting. Don't know if this is your first attempt to publish a photorealistic work like this - I look forward to any more you do in this style.
... addendum ... sorry, just reread it was your first attempt at photorealism. Re: it not being not so creative, I know what you mean, though would you not agree that learning to paint/draw so realistically ultimately gives you the tools to do your own creations with the same attention to detail? (Other views are available! ;-) )
